DOG IS DRAGGING WHITE CHEWED-OFF LEASH STILL ATTACHED TO COLLAR
Dog looks 50 to 60 pounds, ash brown/gray color appears to be a standard pit mixed breed. various neighbors have reported seeing this dog, dragging her leash in the 600 block of Hamilton Avenue since at least Wednesday morning, October 4. This reporter observed the dog walking south on Hamilton Avenue in the 600 block on the sidewalk, dragging her leash, dog began to walk quicker, and was visibly startled by my two dogs barking from the window. This reporter attempted to approach her on the sidewalk and she simply walked faster, but never started to run or growl. She did not respond to words, eat or treat or food or puppy, and then she quickly went between two houses and slipped thru a missing fence panel. It seems she was very familiar with where he was going, and how she could get in and out, this reporter attempted to find her without success, and attempted again in the evening time, after it was made known that other neighbors had seen the same dog, wearing the leash in the same 600 block on Wednesday morning, which means she has been in his bitter cold winter nights outdoors— Her leash has been chewed at the end, seems she likely chewed herself free from wherever she was tied up. As of this report for separate neighbors in the 600 block of Hamilton Avenue, and Jefferson Avenue have observed her this week and are actively looking for her, and nobody seems to know where she came from or where she is slipping off to. This reporter is willing to provide indoor shelter, is separate from other animals for reprieve, and to get the animal, scanned and evaluated for any medical needs, willing ti provide short term emergency foster during this very bitter weather event, if she can be safely contained and brought inside. It seems this may be a community effort, and I am asking the neighbors of Saint Clair Place in Woodruff Place neighborhood to please keep your eye out for her, she walks along the sidewalk, as if her owner simply dropped the leash, she is not aggressive or defensive. If your dogs are barking out the front window or through their own fence while outside, go see what they are barking at and if it is her, please reach out and let me come help get her inside.
I have put food out in a few different spots in hopes that she might find it if needed. She does seem interested in staying by herself and evading humans and does not respond to other dogs, just keeps moving. Our block does have several abandon properties, some boarded up, some empty homes that are for sale, some that are just not inhabited at this time, and there are many garages in alleys and sheds along the alleyway to possibly hide from the wind, and stay out of sight. She’s only ever been seen by neighbors, reportedly, in broad daylight, middle of the day hours.
